The Kokovango Foundation stands at the forefront of a critical mission: restoring balance to the delicate ecosystems of our world's ancient lands. Faced with the relentless onslaught of unsustainable business practices, not enough is being done to protect these vital habitats. The challenges amplified by the pandemic have only underscored the urgency of our cause, propelling us to accelerate our conservation efforts.

For too long, rural communities have borne the brunt of environmental degradation, their livelihoods entangled in the exploitation of natural resources and the impacts of climate change. Our aim is clear: to forge a path towards coexistence between humans and wildlife, nurturing a symbiotic relationship that ensures the well-being of both.

The genesis of our foundation lies in recognizing the interconnectedness of all life forms. We understand that the fate of Africa's iconic wildlife species is intertwined with the well-being of local communities and the health of their natural habitats. Decades of conservation efforts, research endeavors, and the burgeoning safari tourism industry have failed to stem the tide of destruction. Wildlife populations dwindle as their habitats shrink under the onslaught of encroaching livestock, rampant overgrazing, and devastating wildfires.

In the face of escalating human-wildlife conflicts and the adverse effects of climate change, traditional approaches have proven inadequate. Hence, we established the Kokovango Foundation as a beacon of hope, supplementing responsible safari tourism initiatives undertaken by The Lands Travel.

The name "KO KO" resonates with the soul of our foundation, paying homage to the Setswana sound gesture traditionally used in lieu of knocking, reflecting the humble origins from which we arise. The Okavango River, a lifeline in Botswana's arid landscape, symbolizes the preciousness of water in our semi-desert terrain. Spanning an area equivalent to France or Texas, Botswana's unique ecosystem harbours unparalleled biodiversity, making it imperative to safeguard for future generations.

By channeling resources into realistic projects that empower rural populations to achieve sustainable economic self-sufficiency, we aim to break the cycle of dependency on dwindling natural resources.
